Nature v. Artifice

Nature v. Artifice

A self-initiated brief in which the aim was to communicate/provoke/reflect on how people draw from naturality to incorporate into an increasingly artificial environment, and how those become everyday simulations of the natural world.

Outcome: Two hand-bound books displaying how aspects of the ocean and the forest are distilled and extracted into daily objects. Other than a few exceptions, photos/places were taken in common and accessible environments, showing how the objects can easily be found in our surroundings.

Halftone printing is usually an effect seen from a distance, however I brought it into closer contact as a way of misusing and abusing how halftone is usually used. It breaks down an image and parallels how a natural element is broken down into the everyday objects portrayed in the books.
